Men's and Women's Teams, College Sides, Alumni Sides! All played in last years Tourney to make it the best end of the season event ever!

What is the Deer & Beer tourney all about? Cortland-Homer Thundering Herd RFC had an idea. There’s a tournament for every holiday on the books but central New York’s biggest Holiday, Deer Season! And instead of spending the weekend prior to opening day in our hunting camp, let’s play ball. With a little help from some Monmouth, New Jersey ruggers who come here to hunt our prized antlered trophies, we had "game" in more ways than one!

Soon the word got out & rugby players, men and women, came to watch & have some fun. Soon there were players from Syracuse, Binghamton, Watertown, Geneva & Rochester @ the pitch throwing sides together to play ball! We had a double elimination format playing 15 a side. The lady ruggers only had enough for two sides of tens but they got to play too!

Afterwards we invited everyone back to our camp for a social of grilled venison and refreshments. Now it’s getting to be that time again And our friends from Jersey are comin’ up! Directions to Fairgrounds-Cortland NY
Take Interstate 81 (north or south) to exit 12 (Homer & Ithaca). Take first right off ramp (Cortland & Rt 11). Travel south on Rt 11 for 1 1/2 miles, go over Viaduct(that's a big bridge over some RR tracks, Ginny) And look for your 2nd right (Carroll St.) you're there!

Tournament Rules
1) Registration & Captains meeting will be held @ the Fairgrounds at 9am.
2) All sides are guaranteed two matches.
3) First matches start @ 9:30 am with both men's & women's brackets playing at this time.
4) Because daylight is at a minimum, teams must be on assigned fields & ready to kickoff the scheduled match within 5 min of start time. Lateness beyond this will result in forfeit.
5) Halves shall be 16-min. with 3-min. halftime. Championship rounds 20-min halves.
6)tied match after regulation shall be determined by kick for points by each team.
7) In case of tie in bracket, the side with the most 'Points For' advances to championship.

Directions to Social @ Woodmans Pub from Fairgrounds
Coming out of the Fairgrounds, turn right onto Route 11. Go thru 1st light & get in left lane. Turn left at next stoplight (hospital on the right) onto West Main Street. Follow to next light (Pudgie's Pizza on the left), continue down Main Street in left lane (ONE way only) two more lights and look for Woodman’s Pub on left (across from the post office).
