Thundering Herd History & Info
Thundering Herd History During the spring of 2000, three young men who used to commute to Syracuse on Tuesdays and Thursdays for weekly rugby practices began to wonder if they could get enough of a following back here in Cortland and Homer. That summer, the three ruggers decided that they had to give it a try. With the added help of a back line player from Finger Lakes, they began to teach their friends, some old and some new, the skills needed to play the great game of rugby-football. In the fall of 2000 the Cortland-Homer RFC helped fill out the A and B sides for the Barrack's Rangers and in January of 2001, the Thundering Herd was born. Come watch us as we play one of the world's greatest sports and maybe even give it a try yourself. Regular season practices are from 6:00 - 8:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Suggett Park on Homer Ave in Cortland and games are on Saturdays at Calale field on Rte 281 in Homer.
